Arsenal superstar Thomas Partey will captain the Black Stars in the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Harare on Tuesday afternoon.
The midfielder, scoring in the Black Stars win of 3-1 at Cape Coast, assumes the leading role of Andre Ayew, who has been relegated to the bench.
Thomas Partey is the 2nd deputy Captain of the Black Stars, however, when he is not with Ayew as well as injured goalie Richard Ofori, he wears the armband.
The 28-year-old was on top form as Ghana beat the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Saturday and gave Ghana a second half advantage.
Ghana must win in Harare to claim the top spot ahead of the leaders South Africa play later on Tuesday evening.
In the meantime, coach Milovan Rajevac seems to have dropped his captain Ayew due to the obvious issues with his groin that the midfielder has been struggling with since coming to the camp.
The decision to bench Ayew who is considered as being one of the most untouchable players within the Black Stars squad, will be a shock for many.
Rajevac dominated almost all of his top players that played on Saturday’s clash in the match against the same team. Midfielder Baba Iddrisu coming on to replace the talented youngster.
Under fire Jordan Ayew will keep his place in the starting line-up as the sole striker, as Rajevac is confident about the Crystal Palace striker overall contribution to the Black Stars team.
