Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) is adamant that he would not step down for his opponent Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PD).
The Labour Party made the assertion in reaction to a rumored talk he had with Atiku in order to form a political alliance that will require him to step down in the run-up to the 2023 general election.
It can be recalled that a few days gone by, Atiku revealed that he was in talks with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Responding to Atiku’s assertion, Obi through the head of his Presidential Campaign Council media team, Diran Onifade insists that he is gunning for the ultimate which is the Presidency, and has no intentions of stepping down.
The statement said that the campaign team has been overwhelmed by inquiries concerning the supposed alliance talk between the party’s Presidential candidate and that of the PDP.
It added that there are no such talks with Atiku or any other candidate and there is no chance of Obi stepping down from a race in which he is a frontrunner.
They emphasized the position that Peter Obi is in the contest to win.
