Former Black Stars forward Christian Atsu is reportedly missing following a massive earthquake that hit Turkey Monday morning.
A search-and-rescue operation is underway to rescue Atsu, who plays football for Hatayaspor in the Turkish Super Lig after he was trapped under rubble in the 7.8 magnitude quake on Monday.
It is reported that several of his teammates have been rescued by specialists after the earthquake struck.
However, Atsu and the team’s sporting director Taner Savut remain stuck under rubble.
The earthquake hit hard in Kahramanmaras, where Hatayspor is situated.
Two of the team’s players and some members of the technical staff were “pulled out of the rubble” in a dramatic rescue operation.
Rescue teams are working around the clock in a frantic effort to find the Ghana international and Savut in earnest.
Christian Atsu is not the only player missing, as it is reported that Yeni Malatyaspor goalie Ahmet Eyup also trapped.
More than one thousand people are believed to have died in the earthquake that struck Turkey around 4 am on Monday morning.
