Sports Ministry Congratulates Black Meteors On U-23 AFCON Qualification

Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has sent a congratulatory message to Ghana’s U-23 national football team, the Black Meteors, who qualified for this year’s U-23 AFCON tournament, which will be held in Morocco.

The Black Meteors earned a place in the tournament after a 1-0 win against Algeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon.

The message from the Sports Ministry was posted on its official Twitter page shortly after the final whistle was blown in Tuesday’s hard-fought victory over Algeria. The message read “Congratulations, Black Meteors.”

Although the Black Meteors were dominant throughout the match and had several scoring opportunities, the team was only able to score a goal in the 12th minute.

Forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku met a well-delivered cross from Ernest Nuamah to score Ghana’s only goal on the day.
The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament is set to take place in Morocco later this year.
