Tokyo 2020: Benjamin Azamati Finishes 4th And Misses Out On 100m Semis (Video)

Ghanaian sprinter, Benjamin Azamati has missed out on qualification to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m race at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 23-year-old clocked 10.13s and finished 4th in the race which was Rohan Browning of Australia with Yohan Blake of Jamaica finishing 2nd.

His time of 10.13s was not good enough to qualify as one of the fastest losers after missing out on the automatic qualification.

Azamati who broke Leo Myles-Mills’ long-standing Ghana national record in the 100m and booked a place at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo with a smashing of 9.97s (1.5 m/s) sees his Olympic dreams come to a halt.

The race was the former PRESEC and University of Ghana student’s first-ever at the Olympic Games, and will be hoping to make amends when he joins the 4×100 m team.

The next Ghanaian to take the track will be Joseph Paul Amoah in the men’s 200 m dash on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 2:05 GMT.
