Black Stars: Kwame Poku And Kwame Peprah Can Fill The Void Left By Asamoah Gyan – Yaw Preko

Former Ghana International Yaw Preko says Asamoah Gyan has left a big void in the Black Stars, which can be filled by Kwame Peprah of Orlando Pirates and Kwame Poku of USM Alger.

The 35-year-old is currently the all-time leading top scorer for the senior national team with 51 goals.

The former Sunderland striker also holds the record as the African player with the most goals at the FIFA World Cup with six goals.

Asamoah Gyan who last played for the Black Stars at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt is without a club after leaving Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The Black Stars have struggled to replace Asamoah Gyan who is close to calling it a day on his professional career.

“I have not retired from football. There were some injuries last season, but I am not done playing football. I can wake up one day and announce my retirement from football but at the moment, I am active,” he said in an interview with Kessben FM.

The Black Stars have managed to score just one goal in their last four matches.

Yaw Preko in an interview said Asamoah Gyan’s exploits with the national team has made it difficult for strikers to cope.

“Asamoah Gyan’s exit has created a void at Ghana Black Stars and difficult for our attackers to score”.

He recommended Kwame Peprah and Kwame Opoku to take up the mantle from the all-time leading top scorer for the Black Stars in the coming years.

“I believe strongly that former attacker of King Faisal Football Club and Asante Kotoko Sporting Club respectively, Kwame Peprah and Kwame Opoku are the best pair to fill the goal-scoring void in the National team”, he added.
