Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac has stood by his choice of captain Andre Ayew at central midfield during the match with Zimbabwe at Cape Coast.
The Al Sadd forward is known for his work as a right-winger or central forward, however Rajevac began his career in the middle and then pushed forward later in the game.
The decision could have resulted in the loss of both the Black Stars, as Zimbabwe held Ghana for more than an hour.
“Andre was used as a holding midfielder because I know him very well, and I know his abilities, experience, and knowledge. He is very intelligent player and a great leader so, in that match, we wanted to play offensively, and I needed him because of his passing and decision and because we didn’t have Wakaso, I had faith in him that he can deliver which he proved he can,” Coach Rajevac told the Ghana FA media team in an interview.
“His fighting and determination is great, so I took the decision, and I am quite satisfied with his performance,” he added.
The 31-year-old scored Ghana’s third goal in the 3-1 win. Milovan Rajevac decided to bring the central defender in, Baba Iddrissu, and let the captain play forward.
