The Ghana Amputee team Black Challenges who have won the 2021 Africa Amputee Cup of Nations are with no place to go in Tanzania despite winning the competition by winning the final as they have been left stranded.
The Amputee team is appealing to the government to assist them in returning home, as they’re in the midst of a shortage of money in the East African nation.
In a post shared by sports journalist Saddick Adams on Twitter and seen by Kingaziz.com, Captain Richard Attah Opainstil explained the team’s self-financed participation in the tournament, but were left without a single dollar and need help for a plane ticket to get back home.
Ghana defeated Togo 3-2 in the final to win the championship on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
Speaking in a Ghanaian language “Twi” in the video, captain Richard Attah Opainstil said;
“My name is Richard Attah Opainstil, team Ghana captain, national amputee team. The CANAF championship hosted in Tanzania has been won by Ghana. When we were leaving, we did not make much noise because of a rift in the team.
However, we put that behind us and a contingent of nine players, most of who play professional in Turkey, came together to compete in the tournament with our own money and no sponsorship.
We’ve won the trophy, it is not ours but for Ghana, so we are pleading for us to be airlifted home because we don’t have money here”
