“I Won’t Stay In Office Beyond 2024” – Prez Akufo Addo Pledges

President Akufo Addo has promised to conduct free and fair elections in 2024. He also said that he will not go over the two-term limit as the Head of State.

President Akufo-Addo has urged other subregional leaders to make similar promises in a speech at the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum on the 8th of December 2021.

As president of the Republic of Ghana and current chair of the ECOWAS governance authority, I pledge to continue to respect the tenets of the ECOWAS protocol on democracy and good governance.

I will not make or cause any significant changes to electoral laws in the final six months before the next election. I will adhere to the two-term limit for the exercise of Presidential authority enshrined in the Republic of Ghana’s constitution,” he solemnly declared.
