Michelle Georgina Mone, Baroness Mone, OBE is a British politician and businesswoman. She was born on October 8, 1971, in Dennistoun, Glasgow, United Kingdom. In 1996, she along with her then husband who is her ex now Michael Mone founded MJM International Ltd as well as the lingerie company Ultimo, which she later sold in the year 2014.
When she worked for MJM, she advocated naturopathic diet pills from TrimSecrets and was criticized by the British Dietetic Association. Then, in 2015, she was made the first Conservative Life peer. In the year 2020, it was discovered in The Guardian that Mone’s husband was involved in PPE Medpro, a company providing Personal Protective Equipment to the NHS.
The company was given two controversial fast-tracked contracts in the COVID-19 outbreak across the United Kingdom after it had been recommended to the government by Michelle Mone just four days before its official opening. These contracts were scrutinized by the House of Lords commissioner for standards in January 2022.
Mone was offered a position as a marketer at the Labatt brewery company, and in just two years, she gained the position of director of marketing in Scotland. Mone also stated the fact that Brown and his administration failed to manage the nation’s finances in the midst of the global economic crisis. In the London protests in August 2011, Mone demanded the military to be deployed as well as tweeted “People who riot, steal, cover face deserve zero human rights.”
In January 2012, she granted an interview with The Sunday Times, stating her plan to relocate herself and her company to England in the event that Scotland to declare independence following the referendum in 2014 regarding the issue.
