Robert Benjamin Hicks III was an American author. He wrote The New York Times Bestseller The Widow of the South and played a key role in the preservation of the historical Carnton mansion, which was a central location in the Battle of Franklin, which occurred on the 30th of November 1864.

Nashville Lifestyles Magazine recently named Robert as the number two among the 100 reasons to Love Nashville and described Robert as the city’s “Master of Ceremonies”.

Robert Hicks was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on the 30th of January 1951. He moved to Williamson County, Tennessee in 1974 and lived near the Bingham Community at “Labor in Vain,” his late-eighteenth-century log cabin.

In the past, he has worked as a music publisher and the management of artists in alternative and country music, his interest has remained diverse. As a member of the B. B. King’s Blues Clubs in Nashville, Memphis, Orlando and Los Angeles, Hicks serves as “Curator of Vibe” for the company.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 5, beginning at 2 p.m. at Hicks’ home, 5330 Indian Valley Road, Franklin, Tenn., 37064. The old-fashioned wake will begin with music and a social time, followed at 4 p.m. by a time of remembrance and words of expression from those attending. Those attending are encouraged to bring their favorite covered dish (no desserts) to share in a dinner starting at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m., Hicks will be laid to rest in a graveside service at The McGavock Family Cemetery at Carnton, Eastern Flank Park Circle, Franklin, TN 37064. All events are open to the public.

Those wishing to honor Hicks’ commitment to Franklin and battlefield reclamation may designate memorials to Franklin’s Charge www.franklinscharge.org, or Battle of Franklin Trust www.boft.org. Donations may be mailed to either organization at 1345 Eastern Flank Circle, Franklin, Tenn., 37064, but identify which organization and that it is a memorial in honor of Robert Hicks.
