Alan Walbridge Ladd Jr. was an American film producer and executive in the industry. He was the president of 20th Century Fox from 1976 until 1979, when he supervised film productions like Star Wars.

Later, he established The Ladd Company and headed MGM/UA. Ladd received the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1995, for the production of Braveheart.

Ladd was born in Los Angeles on October 22 in 1937. He was the sole child of Alan Ladd and Marjorie Jane (nee Harrold),] who divorced when he turned just two years old. He first stayed with his mother, but eventually was able to live with his father at his home located in Holmby Hills due to her infirmity.

He later recalled how the time he spent with his elder Ladd was not as frequent, and described their bond as “basically not even”. Ladd was in the US Air Force, before being employed by his stepfather’s business for a short period.

Ladd later became a member of Creative Management Associates as an agent in 1963. He worked as a consultant under Freddie Fields. Some of Ladd’s clients included Robert Redford and Judy Garland.
