It is said that a myth claims the newspaper article of Shackleton was written in a particular method to more effectively narrow down and choose the right candidates in his quest.

Two ships could be used; Endurance would carry the principal group into the Weddell Sea, with the aim of reaching Vahsel Bay, where six men headed by Shackleton will begin the journey across the continent.

In addition, another ship named the Aurora is expected to be accompanied by a support crew under the command of Captain Aeneas Mackintosh to McMurdo Sound on the opposite side of the continent.

The group would then build depots for supplies across all of the Great Ice Barrier as far as the Beardmore Glacier; these depots would store fuel and food which would allow Shackleton’s group in their 1,800-miles (2,900 kilometers) journey across the continent.
