George was a player for England in the Australian Schoolboys in 2010, while playing lower grades as well as training with the entire team that is the Bradford Bulls. His oldest brother, Luke and middle brother Sam and his elder twin brother Tom, are all professional players in the rugby league too. Burgess attended Castle Hall Academy to receive an elementary education prior to becoming a professional rugby league player.

His twin brother Tom Burgess, and older brothers Sam Burgess and Luke Burgess are also professional players in the rugby league where they all played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
