Elmira Notre Dame coaching legend Mike D’Aloisio, who was also a teacher and friend to so many, has passed away.
Mike was an athlete in his own right and made a name for himself during his time at Elmira Free Academy, then playing football at SUNY Cortland.
Following his time in the game, D’Aloisio transitioned to a career on the sidelines, which is when he was named the Head Football Coach at Notre Dame, a job which he held for 38 seasons.
Coach D gained a reputation for being one of the best offensive players, however his greatest achievement was in transforming his players to become young men.

In 2020, D’Aloisio was diagnosed with ALS, a disease with no known treatment that causes the body’s muscular function to deteriorate.
Later that year, Coach D told 18 Sports about his optimism and persistence in facing the cancer front on.
