Martin Lee Gore is a multitalented English, musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and DJ. He was born on 23 July 1961 in London, England.
He is the primary songwriter and founding member of the electronic rock band Depeche Mode. As the band’s main keyboardist and guitarist, Gore sometimes provides lead vocals and does some backing vocals too.
Having not had a formal training, Martin taught himself to play keyboard. Whiles at Nicholas Comprehensive School, Basildon, he played in a local band called Norman and the Worms as a guitarist.
Gore worked as a bank cashier after he completed A-levels in 1979. Even with his bank job, he continued to play for the Norman and the Worms band during evenings and weekends.
He received the “International Achievement” award by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors at the 44th Ivor Novello Awards on the 27 May 1999.
