James Dixon Barnes was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 28 April 1956. He is a Scottish-born Australian musician, singer, and songwriter.
According to James himself, he grew up in a slum-like environment where his mother had five children, including himself, before she turned age 21.
Barnes’s family moved to Australia when he was five years old, initially settling in Adelaide before moving to live near Elizabeth.
Of all the artists on the Australian music market, Barnes is the one with the highest number of hit albums.
James did not start out loving music, it was his older brother John who taught and encouraged him to pursue music.
