Vernon Angus Jones was born on 31 October 1960 in Laurel Hill, North Carolina.
He is an American politician and businessman who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001 and from 2017 to 2021.
Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.
Whiles, there he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He also completed the Executive Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Vernon worked at MCI Communications (now MCI Inc.) at the start of his career in telecommunications. He then went on to work with BellSouth Corporation.
His sojourn into elected office began when he was elected into the Georgia House of Representatives in 1992. Up until 2021, Jones was a member of the Democratic Party but has since switched to the Republican Party.

Rufer Jones and Robert Lee Jones are Vernon’s mother and father respectively. They had six children including Vernon.
Rufer and her children worked on their family farm. Robert on the other hand was a World War II veteran who worked in a mill.
Jones’s mother died at the age of 90 in April 2020.
