Joseph Steven Sakic was born on 7 July 1969 in Burnaby, British Columbia.
He is a former ice hockey player turned executive. A one-team man, he played for 21 years with the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Sakic who was named captain of his team in 1992 is widely regarded as one of the greatest team leaders in the history of the competition; he led his team to win the Stanley Cup titles in 1996 and 2001.
Nicknamed “Burnaby Joe”, he was named the most valuable player of the 1996 playoffs and in 2001 by the hockey writers and fellow players as MVP.
As General Manager of the Colorado Avalanche, he won a third Stanley Cup.
Sakic loves to play golf and has a charity that is estimated to have provided over seven million meals to poor children and families.

Brian Sakic is Joe Sakic’s only brother. He was born on 4 September 1971 in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.
Brian was drafted in the fifth round, 93rd overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals; however, he never played a single game in the NHL.
He played professional ice hockey from 1992 to 1999.
