Born on 29 October 1996 in Nousiainen, Finland, Mikko Rantanen is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who plays as a forward and alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL).
During the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected 10th overall in the first round by the Colorado Avalanche.
Rantanen began playing professionally at the age of 16 with HC TPS in the Finnish SM-liga during the 2012-13 season.
In the year that was eligible to be drafted into the National Hockey League, he was rated as the top European skater.
On 28 September 2019, Rantanen signed a six-year, $55.5 million contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche.
Rantanen won his maiden Stanley Cup on 26 June 2022 after helping the Colorado Avalanche to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
