Jaylon Ferguson, a pass rusher with the Baltimore Ravens, passed away last month as a result of “the combined effects of fentanyl and cocaine,” authorities said on Friday.
A spokeswoman for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland noted that the death was determined to be an accident in a statement to TMZ Sports.
Ferguson was discovered unconscious on June 21 at a home near Baltimore until he was declared dead by the first responders who made it to the scene.
Police said they were looking into the possibility that Ferguson, 26, had taken an overdose at the time but did not believe there had been any foul play.
Jaylon was chosen by the Ravens in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over the course of the last three seasons, he appeared in 38 games for the team, recording 4.5 sacks and 67 tackles. At Louisiana Tech, where he previously excelled, he set the NCAA record for most career sacks.
