Nikola Mektić was born on 24 December 1998 in Zagreb, SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia. He is a Croatian professional tennis player. He is a former world number 1 tennis player in doubles.
Mektic has won the 2021 Wimbledon Championships men’s doubles title with countryman Mate Pavic and the mixed doubles with Barbora Krejčíková at the 2020 Australian Open, making him a two-time Grand Slam Champion.
In October 2021, he became the second Croatian to reach the ranking of world number 1 in men’s doubles competition. His highest ranking ever in the singles was attained in May 2013 at world number 213.
On the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour, he has won 16 doubles titles. He also won the 2018 Davis Cup with the Croatian team and gold in the men’s doubles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics partnering with Mate Pavic.
Mektic who started playing tennis at the age of 6, following in the footsteps of his brother Luka turned professional in 2006.
He lives in Freeport, Bahamas.
