Addison Mitchell McConnell III is a former lawyer and politician from the United States who has been Kentucky’s senior senator since 2021 and the Senate minority leader since 2021.
McConnell has held the position since 1985 and is presently serving his eighth term. He is a Republican and also held the positions of minority leader from 2007 to 2015 and Senate majority leader from 2015 to 2021.
He served as the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s chairman for the electoral cycles of 1998 and 2000. In the 108th Congress, he was chosen as Majority Whip, and in 2004, he was again chosen for the position.

He was born to Addison Mitchell McConnell II and Julia Odene Dean. Addison Mitchell McConnell’s dad Robert Hayes McConnell Sr. and his uncle managed the McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama, where McConnell was raised after being born in Sheffield, Alabama.
He is English and Scots-Irish in heritage. His ancestor participated in the American Revolutionary War on the side of the Americans.
