Rafael Devers Calcao is a third baseman with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball. He was born in the Dominican Republic on October 24, 1996.
In August 2013, the Red Sox signed Devers, a 16-year-old free agent. Devers accepted a $1.5 million agreement and was ranked sixth overall among the top 50 foreign prospects. He was regarded by some scouts as the greatest left-handed bat available on the overseas market, according to many metrics.
In 2017 he made his MLB debut, and in 2021 he was named to the All-Star team. Devers avoided salary arbitration after agreeing to a $11.2 million contract with the Red Sox in March of 2022. He served as the team’s main third baseman once more and was chosen by the All-Star Game voters as part of the starting lineup.
