Hill Street Blues Star Taurean Blacque Dies Aged 82 Following Short Illness

At the age of 82, Taurean Blacque passed away. He was best remembered for playing Detective Neal Washington in the 1980s police drama Hill Street Blues.

After a brief illness, the actor, who was originally from New Jersey, passed away in Atlanta.

He was born Herbert Middleton Jr. in 1940, and throughout his acting career, he appeared in shows like Savannah, Charlie’s Angels, and the animated film Oliver & Company. Before making his TV debut, he trained and performed at the New Federal Theatre in New York City.

In the beginning of his career, Blacque was cast in TV shows including Sanford and Son, Good Times, Taxi, and The Bob Newhart Show after joining the Negro Ensemble Company in New York.

From 1981 to 1987, he played the lead character in Hill Street Blues, for which he was nominated in 1982 for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
