Nirmala Mishra Parents: Meet Mohinimohan Mishra And Bhabani Devi

Indian singer of predominantly Odia film songs and Bengali Modern and film songs Nirmala Mishra has passed away.

Music Aficionados revered most of her renderings from the 1960s and 1970s. She was one of the most respected and admired playback singers in both Odia and Bengali films.

The late singer was a recipient of the Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrushna Das Award which she was honoured for her lifetime contribution to Odia music.

Nirmala Mishra

Her song ‘Nida bhara raati madhu jhara janha’ from the 1975 Odia movie ‘Anutapa’ composed by J. Adeni still remains one of the most admired Odia songs of all time.

Mishra passed away at her residence in the Chetla area in the early hours of Sunday, July 30, 2022, at the age of 81.

Mishra was born on October 21, 1938, in Majilpur, Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India to Pandit Mohinimohana Mishra and Bhabani Devi on the eve of Durga Saptami.

Later for her father’s job, her family settled down in Chetla of Kolkata. There was a musical environment in her family.

Father Pandit Mohinimohan Mishra and elder brother Murarimohan Mishra, both were famous singers.

Her family title was Bandopadhyay (Banarjee). Later her family was awarded the title of ‘Mishra’. Her father was also awarded the titles of ‘Pandit’, ‘Sangitratna’, and ‘Sangitnayak’ on behalf of ‘Kashi Sangit Samaj’.
