Rory Daniel McIlroy was born on 4 May 1989 in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland.
He is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland. He plays on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
McIlroy was introduced to the game of golf at a very tender age by his father, who was a good golfer. He was coached by his father for a while before he was enrolled at the Holywood Golf Club at the age of seven, becoming the youngest member of the club at the time.
As an amateur, Rory was the top-ranked golf for the year 2007. He turned professional in the same years and went on to become world number one, reaching there for over a hundred weeks over his career.
McIlroy has 34 professional wins, including four significant championships; this he achieved by the age of 25 putting him along with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to have done so.
