Dafne Schippers is a Dutch track and field athlete who competes in sprints and the heptathlon. Dafne earned a silver medal in the 200m women’s sprint at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She is also the world’s third fastest sprinter in the 200m women’s division (behind Florence Griffith-Joyner, Marion Jones)
She broke the Dutch national record in the 200 m heats in 22.69 seconds in 2011 at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, before placing 9th in the semifinals, missing the final by 0.04 seconds. The four-person 100-meter relay team (Kadene Vassell, Schippers, Anouk Hagen, and Samuel) were eliminated in the preliminaries in 43.44 seconds, a national record.
She was invited to compete in the famous heptathlon Hypo-Meeting in Götzis (Austria) in 2012, where she finished fifth. She also competed in the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2012. (Finland). She came in fifth place in the 200 meters. She had won her heat in 23.01 seconds and had the quickest semi-final time of 22.70 seconds. The Dutch 4×100 meter relay team (Kadene Vassell, Schippers, Eva Lubbers, and Samuel) finished second in 42.80, a national record, behind the German team. At the 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships, she won gold in the 100 m and bronze in the long jump.
Schippers won bronze in the heptathlon at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, tumbling across the line after shaving seven seconds off her personal best in the 800 metres to beat off Briton Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Germany’s Claudia Rath. At the World Athletics Championships, she became the first Dutch woman to win a medal in the hepthatlon.
