Andrew Mark Cuomo was born on December 6, 1957, in Queens, New York, to lawyer Mario Cuomo and Matilda. His parents were both of Italian heritage; his paternal ancestors were from Nocera Inferiore and Tramonti in the Campania area of southern Italy, and his maternal grandparents were from Sicily (his grandfather from Messina). His younger brother, Chris Cuomo, is a CNN journalist, and his elder sister, Margaret Cuomo, is a well-known radiologist.

Cuomo graduated from St. Gerard Majella’s School in 1971 and Archbishop Molloy High School in 1975. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University in 1979 and a Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School in 1982.

Their father, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, is the son of the state’s 52nd Governor, Mario Cuomo, and their mother, Kerry Kennedy, is the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy. President John F. Kennedy is, indeed, their great-uncle.

The three sisters are upholding the family’s illustrious reputation. Michaela, 22, dedicated her undergraduate years to giving victims of sexual assault a voice. Mariah, a 25-year-old outdoors enthusiast and athlete, continues to work closely with her mother as a human rights champion. Mariah’s twin, Cara, has traversed the world advocating for social justice.
