The Riksdag, Sweden’s national legislature and supreme decision-making body, elected her as prime minister exactly 20 days later. She was supposed to take office on November 26, 2021, but resigned just hours before because of a breakdown in her party’s coalition with the Green Party, a Swedish political party based on green politics.
The adoption of the opposition’s budget proposal by the Riksdag following the defeat of her coalition’s budget triggered this breakdown.
