Loretta Lynn grew up at a time when women’s emancipation movements were just starting.
Although she has always refused the tag of being a feminist, Lynn in her songs expressed strong stands for the women of her time and beyond.
She used to work in a farmhouse as a cleaner and cook before she turned to music at the age of 24 after her husband, Oliver Lynn gave her a guitar as an anniversary gift.
Her first song was “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl,”. Lynn went on to become the first-ever female country singer to record a gold album.
The country music legend died on 4 October 2022, aged 90.
