Dj Art Laboe had spent a record 79 years actively on radio as a disc jockey.
As a pioneering DJ, he created the format Oldies but Goodies and was one of the first West Coast DJs to have played rock “n” roll and R&B on radio.
Laboe is credited for helping end segregation in Southern California when he played live shows that attracted whites, Latinos, and blacks.
He founded Original Sound Record, Inc. and in 1958, released the compilation album “Oldies But Goodies: Vol. 1,”.
He hosted the syndicated “The Art Laboe Connection Show.” which made him a big hit among Mexican Americans.
Laboe died Friday night after catching pneumonia at the age of 97.
