I Refused To Sign For Manchester City Because Of Black Stars – Asamoah Gyan

Legendary Ghanaian striker, Asamoah Gyan, has revealed that his loyalty to the Ghana national football team, Black Stars prevented him from signing English side Manchester City.

According to Asamoah Gyan, he allowed a chance to join Manchester City, one of the biggest clubs in England to slip through his hands in 2008 for the sake of the senior national team which he later captained.

He explained that he chose to stick with the national team because of the joy he had any time he played for the national team. He added that back in 2008 when the offer came, he had to choose between playing for Ghana in the African Cup of Nations or joining the English side.

However, he chose the former which resulted in Emmanuel Adebayo taking the juicy offer.

“I always say I’m very patriotic. Sheik Mansour had just purchased Manchester City at the time, and they wanted to sign me, but I was committed to the national team. I chose the national team over everything. That’s why some things hurt me. People didn’t understand. But I’m sure after this interview they’ll understand why things panned out that way,” he said in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah.
