Alan McDonald was born on 12 October 1963 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was a football manager and former professional footballer.
McDonald played several Premier League seasons with Queens Park Rangers (QPR) as a center-back. He featured for the club in 402 matches in the league in his over sixteen-year stay with them.
He also played for Swindon Town and Charlton Athletic.
Alan played at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He won 52 caps with the Northern Ireland national football team.
Upon retiring he had a brief spell with Queens Park Rangers as first team coach. He left QPR to manage Glentoran from June 2007 to February 2010.
McDonald collapsed and died whilst playing golf at the Temple Golf Club near Lisburn on 23 June 2012.

The former Northern Irish international had two children. He is survived by a son, Joshua, and two daughters, Bobbie Lee and Courtney Reigh.
