De Minaur started playing tennis when he was three years old at the Sydney Private Tennis Academy. Both Kerry Dock and Cindy Dock, a former Australian player, served as his coaches.
Adolfo Gutierrez has been his coach ever since he was nine years old and a resident of Alicante.
On the juniors circuit, De Minaur had a career-high ranking of 2, and he and Blake Ellis won the boys’ doubles championship at the 2016 Australian Open.

He grew up with two brothers named Dominic and Daniel and three sisters named Natalie, Cristina, and Sara. They were raised in Sydney, Australia but spent a lot of time in Spain as well.
Dominic and Daniel are fluent in English and Spanish. They also started playing tennis at an early age but have thus far not made any major breakthrough in their tennis careers.
