Captain of the Ghana national team, Andre Ayew, has said he’s satisfied with the victory of Al Sadd over Al Rayyan in the final of the 2021 Emir Cup that was played on 22nd October.
Al Sadd held off Al Rayyan 5-4 in the penalty shootout following the game ended in regulation time, after Yacine Brahimi as well as Santi Cazorla swapped goals for Al Rayyan and Al Sadd respectively.
The win handed al Sadd as well as Andre Ayew the first prize of the campaign, and the Ghana forward revealed to beIN Sports that he was satisfied to get his hands on the silverware soon into his stay within the Middle East.
“I am very proud to have won my first trophy here, and I hope there will be many more to come. The match atmosphere was unbelievable. It was a great game and the fans were here, and the stadium was full. It was a tough game and it was our version of the Clasico.
It was a weird game with the penalties and all. We had to come from behind and I think we dominated the game, and we should have won it in regulation time and not on penalties.
But it is part of football. We calmed our nerves and we won. Now, we need to prepare and try and win the league.”
Ayew also shared his thoughts about the cup’s win via his Twitter account after the match.
The Emir Cup out of the way, Al Sadd return to action in the Qatari Stars League and will play Umm-Salal on the 26th of October ahead of games in the UAE against Al Ahli Doha and Al Duhail on October 31 and November 3, respectively.
So far, Andre Ayew has scored 5 goals across all competitions with Al Sadd since he joined Al Sadd following his departure from Swansea City.
