Former German defender Andreas Brehme, renowned for his crucial goal in the 1990 World Cup final, has passed away at the age of 63.

According to reports from the German press, Brehme was rushed to the Ziemssenstrassede clinic in Munich where he succumbed to cardiac arrest on February 20, 2024.
His partner, Susanne Schaefer, announced his sudden demise to the German news agency DPA, citing cardiac arrest as the cause.

Andreas “Andi” Brehme, a respected figure in German football, enjoyed a distinguished career as both a player and a coach. He will forever be remembered for his match-winning penalty against Argentina in the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final.
Throughout his career, Brehme earned 86 caps for Germany, scoring eight goals. He tasted success domestically, claiming league titles with Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan.
Known for his versatility, Brehme played primarily as a left-back. His tenure at Bayern from 1986 to 1988 saw him clinch the Bundesliga title in 1987.
Brehme’s association with Kaiserslautern spanned from 1981 to 1986 and 1993 to 1998. He secured the Bundesliga title in 1998 and the German Cup in 1996 during his stints with the club, where he also served as manager from 2000 to 2002.
