Angela Chao, the chair and CEO of Foremost Group, a dry bulk shipping company headquartered in New York, tragically passed away in a car accident as announced by the company on Monday.
Chao was a seasoned and highly respected shipping executive, having climbed the ranks through various leadership roles within the company founded by her father, Dr. James S.C. Chao, alongside her late mother, Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, in 1964.
Before joining Foremost Group in 1996, Angela Chao had gained experience in the mergers and acquisitions department of Smith Barney, now known as Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in economics, completing her studies in just three years. Subsequently, she pursued her education at Harvard Business School, where she authored a case study titled “Ocean Carriers,” which remains a part of the mandatory curriculum for first-year students at HBS to this day.

Angela Chao was married to Jim Breyer a prominent venture capitalist and the founder and CEO of Breyer Capita after the death of his first husband Bruce Alan Wasserstein, a prominent investment banker and financier.
