Angela Chao, the CEO of Foremost Group, a US-based bulker owner, tragically passed away in a car accident.

Chao held various positions within Foremost Group before assuming the role of CEO. She served as assistant vice president, overseeing the implementation of the company’s safety management system, then progressed to roles involving ship operations, ship management, chartering, and sales and purchase.

Recognized for her commitment to environmentally sustainable practices, Chao played a pivotal role in steering Foremost Group towards sustainable operations and the development of eco-friendly vessels.

In addition to her responsibilities at Foremost Group, Chao was a respected industry speaker and served on the board of the American Bureau of Shipping Council, as well as the Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s International Maritime Business Department Advisory Board.

Chao graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard College in just three years. She furthered her education at Harvard Business School, where her case study on “Ocean Carriers” remains a part of the required curriculum for first-year students.

Dr. James SC Chao, Angela’s father, is the founder and honorary chairman of Foremost Group.

Angela Chao was the youngest of their six daughters. Her siblings include Elaine Chao, who has held various political positions, including serving as the United States Secretary of Transportation under President Donald Trump.
