Argentina goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez has hit back at France’s main man Kylian Mbappe after the Paris Saint-Germain star claimed South American football is ‘not as advanced as Europe’.
Martinez will be in between the sticks and would try to stop Mbappe when Argentina and France meet in the Qatar 2022 World Cup final today, Sunday, December 18, 2022.
Mbappe and Lionel Messi of Argentina are also contesting for the Golden Boot of the tournament as both players have scored five goals.
But before the World Cup, Mbappe made a comparison between the level of football in Europe and South America, saying the European teams always have an advantage because players play among themselves with high-level matches all the time, such as the Nations League, insisting such level of football is not seen in South America.
Asked about Mbappe’s assessment on the eve of the World Cup final, Martinez said the 23-year-old should shut up if he does not know what he is talking about.
“He doesn’t know enough about football.
“He never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it.
“But it doesn’t matter. We are a great team, recognised as such,” he indicated.
