Her mother is the daughter of English immigrants. She served as the governor of Queensland playing golf in her youth, and began her career in radiography after she retired from golf.
Through her great-grandmother, Barty is part of the Indigenous Australian Ngaragu people, the Aboriginal people from northern New South Wales and northeastern Victoria.
