Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State has alleged that despite the inability of Nigerians to get cash, one of his colleague governors has withdrawn N500m in new Naira notes from an unnamed bank.
This allegation comes in the wake of the unavailability of cash across the length and breadth of the country due to the scarcity of the newly designed Naira notes.
Speaking exclusively to the BBC’s Hause service, El-Rufai alleged that the N500m was withdrawn from a bank by a governor.
El-Rufai condemned the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to extend the deadline for old naira notes to be taken out of circulation for only 10 days, insisting that the time given was inadequate to achieve the intended goal.
He added that there is nowhere in that world that currency exchange does not occur but when it does the timeframe given is not limited as it is in Nigeria and for that matter close to a general election.
