Benjamin Messina was a promising young jockey who died in a gory car accident in Marigne-Peuton, between Rennes and Le Mans.
He was 19 years old and came from Athee in France. Messina, who had 51 rides in his short-lived career and made his debut aboard Fairy Of Light in January last year.
The news of his tragic demise comes barely a week after he rode a winner the previous Monday aboard Hunion Delabrairie at Craon.
Messina’s death comes only three weeks after he had his first major success on the racecourse.
