Benjamin Proud was born on 21 September 1994 in London, England. He is an English competitive swimmer who specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly races.
Proud grew up in Malaysia and attend the Alice Smith School where he competed for his school swim team, KLASS Torpedoes, which was trained by Francis Kiu, a Malaysian swimmer.
When Benjamin was 16 years old, he returned to London where he was born, and joined Plymouth College as a swimming scholar.
He has a degree in Sports Development and Coaching from the University of St Mark & St John.
He is currently a member of Energy Standard International Swim Club based in Turkey and is being coached by John Rudd.
Proud is the 2022 World Champion in 50-meter freestyle and the 2017 world champion in the 50-meter butterfly.

Nick Proud and Sally Proud are the parents of Benjamin Proud.
