Born on August 28, 1997, in Hadjout, Algeria, Billel Benhammouda was an Algerian professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder.
Benhammouda played for the Algeria national team in numerous categories. He was also the former captain of the Algeria under-23 national team.
On the 26th of March 2019, the striker recorded his goals for the first time during the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifying match against Equatorial Guinea with a 3-1 win.
Algeria did not qualify for the finals following the loss to Ghana.
On June 20, 2021, Benhammouda received a call-up from Madjid Bougherra, for the very first ever time in the Algeria ‘A’ national team in a match against Liberia to officially open the stadium that was built in Oran with a 5-1 win.
On the 22nd of August 2021, Bougherra invited 26 athletes, including Benhammouda to the training camp in Qatar to prepare for the 2021’s FIFA Arab Cup.
In the second game, in the match against Burundi, Benhammouda scored his first goal.

Benhammouda died on 10 June 2022 at the age of 24 following a car accident that he encounters on his way home after he represented Algeria in their 3-0 win against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in a friendly game.
His car hit a post with a concrete base, and it caused massive damage to his car, leading to his death.
