Former Ghana International Yaw Preko has called for support for under-fire Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor.
According to the former Medeama coach, Akonnor has the quality to succeed as head of the national team with support from Ghanaians.
Charles Kwabla Akonnor was appointed as the coach for the Black Stars in 2020, replacing Kwesi Appiah on a two-year deal. He was deputy to Coach Appiah before being handed the mandate to coach the team.
The 47-year-old has come under pressure in recent times due to his call ups and style of play.
The Black Stars failed to impress against Ethiopia despite securing a 1-0 win at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in their opening game in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Yaw Preko is supportive of his former teammates indicating he is competent enough to manage the Black Stars.
“He [CK Akonnor] is a fine coach and I think he has what it takes to coach the Black Stars,” he told Asempa FM.
“He needs the support of the entire country to succeed because he is the person in charge of the team.
“CK Akonnor has proven he can coach the team because if you look at his style of play, it tells you he wants to implement something and I think with the support and belief, he can do it for us,”, he added.
Akonnor has come under severe criticism following Black Stars abysmal performance against South Africa which they lost by a lone goal at the FnB Stadium in Johannesburg.
