Members of the current Black Stars team have paid tribute to the late Christian Atsu at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Christian Atsu was a former member of the team. He died in February after his apartment building collapsed on him during the deadly earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria.
The team as a unit has not had the chance to mourn their former colleague in person, except on an individual basis which was mostly on social media.
The team came together for the first time since Atsu’s death on Monday in Kumasi to prepare for their 2023 AFCON qualifying match against Angola.
Christian Atsu played for the senior national team between 2012 and 2019 and was an integral part of the team.
After their training session on Monday, the current squad stood behind a placard that read “RIP Christian Atsu”.
Ghana will take on Angola in the first leg of the 2023 AFCON qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, 23 March at 4 pm local time.
The return leg will be played on 27 March in Luanda.
