Bob Lanier Daughter: Who Is Khalia Lanier?

Bob Lanier was an American professional basketball player who played center for the Detroit Pistons and the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association.

Lanier was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.

For the 14 NBA season, Lanier was averaging 20.1 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.5 bpg, and 1.1 Spg, while shooting an impressive 51.4 percent on the floor.

He participated in 8 NBA All-Star Games and was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the 1974 game, but there was no participation in the NBA Finals during his career.

His accomplishments were in spite of a lengthy history of knee injuries.

He had his No. 16 jersey retired by the Pistons as well as the Bucks and also had his No. 31 jersey was retired from St. Bonaventure University, for which he played in basketball in college.

After his retirement from playing, he was an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors, and briefly was the interim coach. He later worked in the role of the NBA Cares Global Ambassador.

Born on September 10, 1948, in Buffalo, New York, United States, Lanier died on May 10, 2022, at the age of 73.

Khalia didn’t follow the path of her father and make a career out of basketball, rather, she became a star volleyball player. She currently plays professional volleyball in Italy.

“I didn’t want to play basketball because I didn’t want to be in his spotlight,” Khalia said in the 2021 Olympics interview with the Olympics’ Alessandro Poggi.

“And just the comparison is so hard, especially as a woman coming up under a male professional athlete. So I wanted to kind of find my own way, find my own sport,” she continued.

After finishing her studies at the University of Southern California, she became a member of the Volley Bergamo club, one of the most famous professional clubs around the globe, Poggi notes.

She has also played for Team USA on several occasions at the junior level. She hopes for her Olympic debut in the 2028 Summer games, which are scheduled to take place at Los Angeles.

Khalia is currently 23 years as of 2022.
