The country rock ensemble Blackberry Smoke is mourning the loss of one of its own: drummer Brit Turner, who succumbed to brain cancer after a valiant battle.
Turner played a pivotal role as a founding member of Blackberry Smoke, which originated in Atlanta in 2000. Over the span of more than two decades, his drumming prowess graced notable tracks such as “Waiting for the Thunder,” “Good One Comin’ On,” and “Sleeping Dogs.”
Collaborating with lead vocalist Charlie Starr, his brother Richard Turner on bass, guitarist Paul Jackson, and keyboardist Brandon Still, Turner contributed to the band’s early albums, including “Bad Luck Ain’t No Crime” in 2003 and “Little Piece of Dixie” in 2009.
Blackberry Smoke achieved significant success with their 2015 release “Holding All The Roses,” which debuted at the pinnacle of Billboard’s Country Albums chart.
Earlier this year, the band unveiled their latest album “Be Right Here” and announced tour dates across the United States and Europe. Their upcoming performance at Denver’s Ogden Theatre is scheduled for Thursday, with a subsequent show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles alongside singer-songwriter Cody Jinks on June 2.
In light of Turner’s passing, it remains uncertain whether Blackberry Smoke will proceed with their tour as planned, as the band and its fans grapple with this profound loss.
