Chris Hayes Parents: Roger Hayes, Geri Hayes

Christopher Loffredo Hayes is a political analyst, television news host, activist, and author from the United States. He was born on February 28, 1979. He is arguably best known for his political takes on the show All In with Chris Hayes, a weekday news and commentary program on MSNBC.

Hayes is also the weekly anchor of the MSNBC program Why Is This Happening?.  Up with Chris Hayes, a weekend MSNBC program was previously hosted by Hayes. He serves as an editor-at-large at The Nation.

Hayes earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 while studying philosophy at Brown University. His career in the media began in August 2001, when he contributed for four years to the independent weekly Chicago Reader, where he wrote about both local and federal politics.

He started then moved to the monthly labor-focused publication In These Times in late 2003.

His father is of an Irish Catholic background, while his mother is of Italian descent. While attending a Jesuit seminary in New York, his father relocated from Chicago and started community organizing in the Bronx.

In addition to serving as an associate commissioner for the NYC Department of Health, Roger Hayes spent several years overseeing community organizing at the Community Service Society of New York. His mother Geri worked as a teacher.
